(Q1)
So, tell me a little about yourself.
Jenn:
Hi, there! I’m a visual designer focused on brand identity and digital design, with a strong interest in art direction. I enjoy working across different forms of design, from digital to print, and I’m interested in how type, images, color, and space can come together to shape how a brand looks and feels.
(Q2)
What do you enjoy most about the branding?
Jenn:
I’m not exactly great at math, but when it comes to branding, I really enjoy the process of adding and subtracting. I usually write down every idea that comes to mind, big or small, even the weird ones. Then I play around with them, make different versions, and figure out which ones actually belong in the design. After a lot of trial and error, once the direction starts to become clear, I stop trying to add more and start taking things away.
There’s a Korean saying, “When there are too many boatmen, the boat goes up the mountains.” I think the same thing can happen in design. When you try to show too many ideas at once, the main idea can easily get lost. I like keeping that main idea clear, then using images, colors, type, and small details in simple but different ways. Each part can have its own rhythm, but when everything comes together, it should still feel like one brand.
(Q3)
What kind of things inspire you?
Jenn:
I’m usually drawn to small details that give something character. It could be an unusual typeface, an unexpected color combination, an old sign, packaging, a photograph, or even the mood of a space. I like collecting things that catch my attention and thinking about why they work. Sometimes a very small detail can lead to a completely new idea.
(Q4)
What do you hope people feel from your work?
Jenn:
I hope people can feel the personality and story behind the brand. I don’t think design always needs to be loud or complicated to make an impression. If something stays in someone’s mind, makes them curious, or gives them a feeling they remember, that means a lot to me.
